Inspired Art Classes in Sonoma County

Create well-deserved time for artistic exploration with art classes that come to you. Make your own schedule and paint in your pajamas if you want. I’ll bring the supplies, you bring the creative fire!

Feed Your Soul, Tell Your Story

You deserve to make time for your art and yourself. Once I realized how important art time was for my self-care, I wanted to help make artistic expression accessible for other creatives who needed the push to make it a part of their routine. There are no set class times, no commute to a distant studio, and best of all we create in your own safe space.

All the materials and setup are brought to you and cleaned up by me. If you have a studio space already, all the better. I come to apartments, homes, backyards, garages, barns. No matter where you are, you can make space for your own personal art evolution!

Choose Your Class

Fearless Collage and Mixed Media

In this 5 week course, you explore using paper and photo collage combined with paints, inks, charcoal, oil pastels and more to push past your self-imposed artistic boundaries. We’ll explore working intuitively, working through frustration, and continuing to create regardless.

We will explore the basics of using collage and try out possible techniques before beginning your personal exploration. You’ll be working with no real set plan and discovering your inner voice by learning to flow with the process of bravely taking chances and stepping outside your comfort zone. We will work on several focused pieces that you will be able to take home and hang or frame.

The focus of this class is not so much a finished product as the joy of the process and experimenting with new mediums in a no-expectations environment. Take some time to connect with your creativity, expand the possibilities and have fun!

All materials are provided including a mixed media sketchbook (yours to keep), 18x24 Canvas (yours to keep), 18x24 Hardboard (yours to keep), (3) 8x10 hardboards (yours to keep), all mediums, brushes and collage materials.

Experimental Acrylic Painting

In this 5 week course you’ll get comfortable working in acrylic paints and learning what is possible and how to use it in a way that feels freeing, not intimidating. Using an “everything goes” approach, you’ll get a better understanding of how to use acrylics to suite your own unique creative voice.

We will do some experimental exercises initially and then work through two larger pieces on canvas or hardboard panel that will be ready to take home and hang. Subject matter is up to the student, but we will tend to focus on shape, color and composition and work in a more abstract manner.

The focus of this class is not so much a finished product as the joy of the process and experimenting with new mediums in a no-expectations environment. Take some time to connect with your creativity, expand the possibilities and have fun!

All materials are provided including an acrylic paper pad (yours to keep), (2) 18x24 Canvases (yours to keep) OR (2) 18x24 Hardboards, paints, brushes and palette.

Expressive Watercolor

This class is a great choice for small groups or individual instruction. In this course you will learn basic techniques of working with watercolor on paper, color mixing, color theory, using layering and more to produce vibrant, expressive work. The immediacy and permanence of watercolor allows you to experiment with bold, fearless choices and gets you comfortable with letting go of expectation.

We will work in a watercolor sketchbook and will also produce larger more focused works on high-quality paper. If desired, we will also combine acrylic inks and other drawing materials to accent your watercolor work. You will end up with several bold, confident pieces to take home with you and frame.

FAQ

Don’t see your question answered here? No worries, feel free to contact me for more information.

What if I’ve never taken an art class before?
Beginner artists are always welcome and I adapt the course to suit your needs. I’ll provide all the materials and show you how to use them. There is no stressful wading through the art store unsure about exactly what you need or what it’s used for. Approaching artmaking with fresh eyes and a beginner’s mind can be really freeing.
How do I choose my schedule?
When you click the Sign Up button for the course you’d like to take, you can let me know which days of the week and which time frames you’d prefer. Then, I’ll contact you by email or phone to confirm exact dates with you.
How do I get my supplies?
I will bring your supplies to you on the first day of class. I will leave some supplies with you and take the rest with me to have for each class time. You may also choose to purchase a full class pack of supplies at any time if you wish to keep all of your supplies even after our class is completed.
How much space do I need to have available in my home?
Any space that can hold a 6ft table and two chairs will work just fine. Garages, back porches and patios work well, but any space will do. I bring the table and a drop cloth to protect your floors, carpet and furnishings.
Do you offer classes for small groups?
I do offer all of the class choices as small group classes if desired. Maximum number of participants is 4 and all participants should be able to commit to all 5 weeks of class. Send me an email to set up a class session for a small group.

If you are looking to host an event for a larger group, please email me to discuss a venue, class fees, supplies and scheduling. I am available for parties, team building exercises, and more.

What if I am an artist already and have my own supplies but just want to try new techniques and styles?
I love working with other artists and do offer a discounted rate if you are an artist that already has your own supplies. Beginners must purchase supplies through the course for streamlined teaching purposes, however seasoned artists are welcome to bring their own supplies and experiment more openly.
How long do your classes run and what if I need to skip a week?
The class times run for a total of 3 hours which includes setup and breakdown of supplies. Total work time is usually around 2 hours and 15 minutes.

I absolutely understand that life happens and sometimes you’ll need to reschedule. Skipping a week is fine as long as you let me know at least 24 hours in advance. We can get a makeup class scheduled at your convenience.

Do you offer one-on-one video classes via SKYPE or ZOOM?
This is something I would like to offer in the near future and would love your feedback about whether this is something you’d be interested in! I will also be developing online courses in the near future so you can continue your art exploration on your own terms.
